DVD on Box Turning

Don Emmerling

>Can anyone suggest a few good DVD's on instructions for box turning. I have seen a lot of ads for woodturning DVD's but none specifically for box turning. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Don

>Raffan's DVDs are all worthwhile. He has a box turning DVD, I haven't seen this one but he is a great demonstrator. He also has a companion book that has the details of the technique. See it, read it, do it. Should be easy? ;)

>Raffan has a very good DVD/Video on making boxes with suction fit lids. He also does a screw on lid. Chris Stott has two videos on making differernt boxes with various types of lids. Ray Key has three video on making different boxes. The Key videos should all really be on one, but C.S. cut them into three for the sales. There are some more but I haven't seen them.

My preference is Raffan's DVD because he explains the mechanics of the lid and how to achieve the fit. I like the Stott and Key videos equally. I would like it if all three of the Ray Key video's were on one so you could flow from one box to the next. Each has different material to present and different ways of doing the same thing. Stott makes finial boxes and Key makes flat top boxes.

The Raffan and Stott books on box making are also worth having. The Raffan book goes into more detail than can be put on the DVD. The are sections on different types of boxes and shapes. The Stott book is more about the various designs with brief sections on making the various styles. I use both as reference.

>Hi,

I am just now watching one at home that was made some time ago by Bonnie Klein. I have seen the Raffen one as well and both are good examples of process and technique.

take care,

Jim

>You might look at Raffan's book on turning boxes, either to accompany or instead of the video. I haven't seen his box turning video, but I have another of his and the companion book has FAR more detail than the video. There is only so much you can put into a video. If I had to get just one, I'd go for the book.

Of course, if they've done something like include all the text of the book in the DVD, nevermind!
