Gloat..... but with ??'s

Sam Dean

>Howdy Folks,

OK, I've got a huge gloat: I just recieved notification that I've been accepted to exhibit in a local art fair. It's called the Art Fair on the Square in downtown Bloomington, IN on June 18th. It was a juried entry / application and will be the very first show I've ever been in! I'm just tickled silly! If anyone is in the area, please stop by and say hi.

Now, because I've never done this before, I've got a few questions for those that have. When you sell something, do you give the buyer a reciept? If so, what kind?

What do you package the pieces in for their trip home with the new owners? I was thinking tissue paper in a "nice" paper sack. Would boxes be better?

How do you label each piece for sale (price, etc..)? I don't want any sticky residue from stickers. Is it your opinion that labels, cards, etc.., should be hand written or printed?

Thanks to all, for all of your help.

Thanks,

Sam

Do you know anyone with very good hand writing? Do you have access to someone who does calligraphy? I would vote for handwritten on a card unless you can print up some nice stuff on cardstock. The stickers are for yard sale stuff. You could go with a nice "presentation" card and have care and feeding of the object on the back. Boxes work as do bags.

I haven't been to bloomington in years. I'm originally from Brownstown. I have some tags I made up on my printer that has my name, my logo, and contact information. Inside are blanks where i can write the wood species or other pertinent data.

On my hand mirrors I simply put them on with ribbon. They are about the size of a business card but I fold them in half and hole punch the corners. On bowls a platters I hand them the card seperately. I have them labeled on the bottom with Post it Note little stickers. They are about 1 1/2 long and 1/2" wide. I write a number on them that corresponds to my invertory sheet and then the price. These things come off without leaving a residue.

>Way to go Sam!I recently finish an art show I was invited to and I used nicer paper bags of different sizes, the ones with the handles and wrapped the sold pieces with a nicer tissue type paper. You can get sales receipt books at walmart or office max.For the pricing I bought price tags at office depot,3/4 by 3/4 with the string on them and set the the turnings on the end of the string.I also made some cards describing the pieces by some of them.Good luck.

Good luck with the show. Make a list of things you need to take with you. Update that list with your show experince.

I found that www.papermart.com had terrific prices, selection and service on bags and such.

>For tags or cards, check out the paper selection in the scrapbooking areas of craft stores, etc. Search online also for free scrapbooking fonts, and print your tags.

Good luck!
