>I didn't think dogwood had that much character! How big an opening did you work with? Does dogwood turn easy? I haven't tried turning it...I trashed my bandsaw blade trying to cut a green dogwood blank. :(

>I have not turned any wet dog wood. This piece had beena barn for a couple of years and was dry. The opening is about the size of a 50 cent piece
Dogwood turns well

>It is a close grained wood like beech and turns well. Takes a good polish. Just hard to find large pieces.

>I found a 10" log today. At least I thought it was dogwood until I cut into it. But looking again at Dick's piece, I don't think it is, even though the bark is a dead-ringer for dogwood. It is dense and heavy, but there is a lot of contrast between the early wood and late wood and a fair amount of space. Almost reminds me of pine to look at it, which I know it is definitely not.
