Box Elder Salad Bowl

>It's Box Elder, 12 5/8" dia. x 3 7/8" tall. There is a 1/16" tall foot, giving it a nice floating feeling. Sanded to 400 & finished with butcher block oil. The lines were burned in with steel wire and the color is green Chestnut Spirit Stain. It also has my double beaded rim treatment. I usually texture the band around the rim and a circle on the foot, but thought to try color instead, I think it has adds nice look to it.

>I don't usually like colors on wood very much, but I have to say that you did a fantastic job on this and the color really is beautiful.

Also love the shape of the bowl. I love turning box elder. I have a big one drying right now.

Very very nice! Thanks for sharing.

>Hi Chris,

I really like this bowl. It's a simple form yet has a great flair to it. It will be the perfect addition to any table setting.

I'd like to try the spirit stains. I saw them at the Woodworking Show and they looked like they had a lot of flexibility in mixing the colors and they were just beautiful.

Very nice bowl! Thanks for posting it.

>Thanks everyone.

Jennifer, I would say get them and play. I this technique works very well on hollow forms and has been well received. Also, burls look wonderful with color.
