long shaft forstner bits

>I have been searching for some long shaft forstner bits. Rockler carries what they call long shaft, but they say the shaft is 3 7/8" long. I have seen longer shafts, but have been unable to find a source.

Anyone have any idea of a source for extra long forstner bits?

TIA

>Have you considered bit extensions? They have them in 3/8" diameter and up to 12" lonf for standard forstner bits and in 5/8" for De Walt. Try Home Depot for them.

>Milwaukee makes several bit extensions.I use them ocassionally at work>plumber/electrician. They really need a flat side on the bit shaft because they are tightened with 2 allen wrench screws on the shaft. How big is the bit?I have used them up to a 2-9/16 " bit size . Any larger and it will tax more than you brain. You can get some at 7 Corners Ace do a search. They are good to deal with, been buying drills and such from them for 20 years. David

>Connectticut Valley Manufacturing Company, you will find there the finest forstners bits around, they have longer shafts than those stumps everybody sells and If I remember correctly, they can make them to your specs, they are made right here in the USA by americam crafstmen. I have been using them for the las 35 years, a little bit pricey, but extremely long lived, so I am happy.

Thanks

>Thanks. Just what I was looking for. I see what you mean by being a bit pricey.

I do have an extention, but it does not allow for deep holes in smaller diameters, even 1/2", because of the set screws.

>Keith,

Try the "Greenwood Bits" from Lee Valley if 6 1/2" is enough depth (Not sure if that is complete bit length or drill depth capacity)
