OT?-Other uses for Med. Oxygen tanks??

Tim McGill

>Does anyone have a use for medical oxygen tanks. I found two of them when cleaning up the basement in a house we purchased? One is about 15" tall and the other about 24".

I tried to return them to the medical supply dealer but they wouldn't give me anything for them.

I will be glad to trade for turning wood!!

Thanks,

>They would probably have to be re-certified and the dealer doesn't want to bother with it. You might try a industrial gas dealer (like Holox or whatever).

Here is a way out answer. A local school shop class constructed a set of wind chimes by cutting off the bottom of some O2 bottles and hanging them from the top. You can change tones by cutting them different lengths. The bottles here have a wonderful sound.

Sanctuary bells

I have a buddy that is an expert machinist/welder. He picked up a couple of those gas tanks and chopped then base off about 2 feet from the top. He then welded up an elaborate hanging stand that bolted to the underside of his overhead porch. To the left he mounted a home made swinging striker. It looks like a giant matchstick on a set of (2) chains that holds it parallel to the ground, and sets it so the striker hits about mid way along the "bell". One simply pulls a rope that is connected to the striker and gives the bell a smack. The tone that comes out is mellow and smooth. Very Zen like.

He said he got the inspiration from a documentary on Japan. The documentary showed where Buddhist Monks had a similar bell at a sanctuary/temple.

See ya around,

Dominic

>Old tanks are worthless to the medical companies and hard to dispose of.

Open the valve to blow it down and throw it away on the QT.

We've been through several differetn O2 comopanies here in the last 14 years and I learned to be careful that ALL of their inventory goes back pronto when we have to switch.
