Very OT - Home Electrical??

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey

>Got any Sparkies in the house?

Putting in a a new whirlpool bath which calls for 2 220x20 GFCI circuits (one for the pump, one for the heater.

So I run two 10-3wg cables and am going to start hooking things up. Open the unit wiring boxes and the I have a blue and a brown (hot feed) and a green/yellow stripe. Can wire the hot feeds ok, but unsure about the neutral (white).

Do I join the white on the green and just use the bare ground on the box?

Do I use the white to also ground the box?

Do I have one too many wires in this equation?

Do I then take the white or a bare ground to the neutral lug on the breaker?

Feeling a bit dumb here in spring-like New Jersey.

TIA

M

>Mark,

The green and yellow wire is GROUND. This MUST! be wired to the ground in your panel. You didn't need 3 wire cable just two with a ground wire as you are using 220volt.

If you are going to use the wire you have then just hook up the black to blue and the red to brown and at the other end the black and red go to two side by side terminals on the GFI breakers in the panel.

GFI's must be wired correct or they will not work. The grounds have to be right also.

Think about the wiring this way:

120 --- N --- 120

The 120's are two legs in your breaker panel and the N is the neutral (white wire). Taking the neutral out you then have 220 voltage.

I hope this helps.
