Mulberry for turning?

Joe Pack

>I have a chance to snag about 8 sections of mulberry, 12"-18" diameter, 24" long. The wood is a pretty, dark reddish brown, or so it seems from the cut ends. Is mulberry a good turning wood? (I know, anything free is good, but will I love it or hate it?)

Good stuff...

>The ends are reddish brown because they have been exposed to sunlight for sometime. Freshly cut, Mulberry is very yellow. It does tend to crack a little more easily than other woods, but not like Cherry or Madrone.

>Mulberry is very nice to turn. It can be a bit rough to sand , but patience and a bit of time on the finish and it looks lovely.
