Little OT, vacuum pump help

William

>Hey all!

I am trying to set up my vacuum pump system and I think my pump needs to be flushed. It's firing up, but I am getting no vacuum or air. I have a Gast oil pump dual vacuum and compressor. The funny little pumps with the glass oil jars and wicks. Also has two mufflers. The muffler on the air compressor side was saturated with oil. The vacuum side was dry.

Anyway, Gast recommends either buying their "solvent" or something similiar. Was wondering what I can find that would be "simliar"!

Thanks!

William

For Safety's Sake: when flushing a pump, keep a fire extinguisher close at hand.

We've used blanket wash (used to clean printer's ink and not flammable), mineral spirits and turpentine. The LESS FLAMMABLE the better!

>Thanks Ron,

I will browse the Depot and see what they have. Especially in the less flammable as possible :)

I obtained somewhat generic instructions for the pump from Gast. The instructions are rather vague as far as how much oil to use.

Otherwise, if I can get it working, it seems like it will be a nice, quiet pump.
