It's my understanding mylands is a waxy shellac. You can't apply a finish over a waxy shellac.
If you use mylands as a friction finish properly, meaning you created allot of smoking heat, the wax should have burned off and you should be able to apply a finish over mylands. As always, test first.
But the idea of using mylands is using it as THE final product. What are you trying to do?

>Yes, but if properly applied, I cannot see any reason to require doing so. As stated, Mylands appears to have a waxy component, but I know from experience that NC based lacquers will stick to it quite well. I've experimented with a lot of finishing regimens, wouldn't suggest this one, but it worked when I tried it. I did it because I used Mylands on a piece of work that was too large for a friction polish, it seemed to be drying before it made it back around to the applicator and was gumming up and leaving streaks. I sanded it smooth and then sprayed lacquer out of can.
If it were a great idea - we'd all be doing it.

>Friction polishes like Mylands seem to work on smaller pieces like pens and bottle stoppers. That is because the friction generates heat, which in turn will smooth out the finish while burning out most of the oil/wax. On larger pieces the finish will cool down too fast.
I don't like the idea of putting lacquer etc. on any waxed surface.
Anyway, I would remove as much of the remaining wax as possible. Maybe turps and allow it to dry well.
