Saran/stretch wrap is so good at holding in moisture that it creates a wonderful breeding ground for fungus and mold. Great if you want to spalt your woods, not so if you don't.
I use plastic very frequently if I round out a blank on the bandsaw and know I'm going to get to turn that blank within a few days or a week. Spares the anchorseal experience. I also throw them in a plastic garbage bag for the same purpose.
I have a few blanks that I soaked in Miracle Grow and wrapped up tight in stretch plastic that have been sitting in a dark corner for about a year or so. They're spalting up wonderfully.

Mike, does A know you are feeding fungii in the basement?

>Pffft. They're stashed away upstairs. The temp in the basement doesn't promote much rapid growth.

Being the cheap guy that I am I've tried all the alternatives, Canning wax, tar, Paint, plastic. You just can't beat Anchorseal. In an emergency Latex paint put on really thick works but doesn't hold up nearly as well as Anchorseal.
I use plastic bags to store wood for a week or two until I get time to anchorseal them. I work a lot so sometimes wood sits longer than I like. I also use plastic bags to wrap around work that's on the lathe if I take a break for dinner of sometimes overnight. They do produce mold so I don't leave them in there any longer than necessary.
