First Square Bowls

Tom In Red Deer

>Here are some square bowls I have done on my new lathe. I never tried this before because I couldn't slow my other machines down enough.

These are 9" square and made of poplar (Tulip Wood)

They are finished with wipe on poly and the waxed.

Any and all comments accepted.

>Thanks Shel,

The spinning wings gave me fits and my thumb should be all better in a week or two.

These three were fun to do and I will do more.

>I like the bottom one the best. It looks like a bowl being pushed up through a square piece of cloth.

>Thanks Heather,

That is my favorite as well. It is also the nicest piece of wood.

>Tom- as a square turner my preference is to keep the rim thickness uniform all the way across. This requires much practice, but it looks much better when you turn rectangular forms. You're off to a good start, and it really helps if you have enough lathe mass to crank up the RPM's.
