>Hi David,
You may want to check out drying roughed out bowls using alcohol. This method yields bowls ready to finish turn in about two weeks. Numerous people have been using the method since I published it last November. Read the article and ask all the questions you want. More people read then post so somebody needs to ask the questions.

We need more info to diagnose the problem. The shape and thickness are probably the two biggest problems. The walls should be of consistent thickness and this includes the base. You didn't say where it cracked.
Check your blanks carefully before turning. Many problems with cracking are because the cracks are already there. Make sure you cut enough wood off the log to get rid of any cracks. After I trim the bulk off I cut 1/2 strip and then flex it with my fingers. If it breaks I cut off another half and check again.
When microwaving a bowl you have to take your time. My microwave doesn't have a defrost setting and only works on high. I start with 1 minute intervals letting it cool completely inbetween. As the bowl gets dryier you can add more time but I prefer to take it slow.
