Pride and Joy

William

>A fellow member asked if I would post a pic of the lathe and new shop. Last week I posted that the lathe was arriving on Friday. As I related to another forum, when the truck pulled up all I heard from the SWMBO was "honey, Santa Claus is here" and indeed it was!

Thanks to wonderful generosity and experience of a turning club member and some neighbors, we got it from the garage to the basement. It was up and running that night! I am trying to stay off of it until I get my duct work in for the DC. As you can see in the pic, I failed miserably :) It's feeding on some sycamore that I had drying for awhile. I couldn't resist...........I was like a little kid again.

It's been rather amusing as I had some friends and neighbors over the shop wondering what the fuss is all about. They look at it with this puzzled look on their face like "what is it?" I previously stated once before like the Harley fans. "If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand". LOL

As my previous post stated, it now sits in the newly built shop that is about 25x 14, give or take. It will boast a complete cyclone DC system and air drop system. The biggest advantage is that I won't be chattering in the garage anymore during the dead of winter. Overall, I am very very excited......

The biggest thrill though is that when I do turn on it, I will think of Mom because it came from her and I know she is looking down smilin'!!!

What a beauty!

>And you are right...I'm sure your Mom is definitely smiling!

Did you start with such a little bitty bowl because you were trying to just make little bitty chips and dust? :) Shoot...slap a slab on that big boy and go for it! You can clean up the mess!

>Great looking lathe! No wonder you're in love! Question about controller position, though. All the ads I've seen have the controller in front, not behind lathe. Did you install there for a specific reason? Seems like it could swivel out of reach.

>Hi Jay,

Usually, they do have the control arm in front of the lathe. I had an opportunity to test drive one and the gentleman had his control arm behind the lathe. I found it easier and more fluid to move about the lathe. I did not have any extended arm reach that would be off balance. I also have the remote start/stop for any of the "oh sh#t!" times :) Plus when I go to the outboard side, the control arm will be just to my left. Overall, it works :)

Congrats on the new machine. I received a new Oneway cat. yesterday and thats what I dreamed about all night long. Keep us posted on your output and the development of your new shop. I am just finishing up my new shop but I guess I will continue to use my 25 year old Delta lathe a while longer. Maybe I can see your new pictures and keep my dream alive.

>You had better get a good pic of this and hang it on the wall. All to soon it will be dirty with CA and spray stuff and chips in the beautiful white paint.

They are truly a pride and joy and you will enjoy it for many years to come.

Good turning and be safe
