powermatic success at last

>Now that I've had a chance to test the lathe out I note my Hercules dust collector's large hood residing behind the workpiece doesn't seem to be collecting any of the chips. I suppose it is getting some of the dust. I hope so. Is this what my expectation should be? Or, is the collector not powerful enough? Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

>Ken, dust collectors typically are not used to catch turning chips. Just let them fall onto the floor then sweep them up. Use the DC when sanding/sawing or other work where fairly fine particles are being produced.

>Most DCs won't collect the chips that well. Let them fall. I use my DC while sanding (except when wet sanding with oil) and while turning some dry stuff. I also usually have it on while scraping.
