>If you have a woodturners club near you, you may be in luck. Some clubs get Anchorseal in a 55 gal drum and prorate the cost to members. It's by far the best deal I've found. A google search for AAW & using their directory should find the club nearest you.

>Woodcraft has their own brand of wax type sealer. I suspect it is the same thing only branded fro Woodcraft.

>But I have no need for a 5 gallon bucket (yet) and a gallon at Woodcraft is about the same as a gallon plus shipping by mailorder. BTW, does that stuff have a shelf life? Especially after it has been opened?

>OK, I went back to the pile. There seem to be two different trees. The one that I saw on my way home, with reddish wood, must have been dead for quite a while, and is filled with carpenter ants. What I thought was weird bark, is barkless wood that is split. :-(
The other, I think, is gumbo limbo. I grabbed a chunk, in case it is worth turning.
Here are some pix - sorry about the size; I have yet to get a decent photo editor on this PC.
Gumbo Limbo?
Wood Pile, showing long-dead reddish wood with ants.
Some leaves, maybe from Gumbo Limbo? Maybe yard trash?

>You website bandwidth has been exceeded, so all I see is some little x's instead of pictures. E-mail me the pics. The bark on gumbo limbo is usually a dead giveawy, as it peels off like very thin birch bark, but with some red shades. Of course, long dead trees will also have long ago stopped peeling, and the bark comes off easily in large hunks.
