live center question

>I need to know the answer before I use my new Powermatic 20" later today.When I want to use the live center cap do I just screw it on over the live center tip or remove the tip first? I guess the tip is used for really small turnings?

first of all, congrats on the new lathe -- you're gonna love it.
On mine, the shoulder of the cone flushes up before the tip in the live center contacts the aluminum cone, so there's no need to remove the point. You prob already know it, but a little rod came with the live center to insert in the hole to lock the shaft while you tighten the cone.
Also, try not to wake the neighbors with gleeful gloating :))
