Any help or ideas are appreciated.

>All you need is an open ended box that will clamp on your lathe bed.You will need to run a slot in the top of the box parallel to the ways. The slot will have to be the proper size to run a router bit with collar the distance the groove needs to be.I have made different tops for the box out of aluminum plate so that I can use different size collars for different needs. If you have any questions,e-mail me and I'll try to clear it up.....

It depends on what you are trying to do. To cut grooves in the side of bowls you could use a flat board that clamps in your tool rest and then run a router or flexshaft tool along this board to cut the grooves.

To cut grooves in a spindle you can use the same method but I find it easier to build a box that fits on the lathe bed. The router sits on this box and routes a groove.

I also use indexing to drill holes evenly spaced around a piece. I use it to mark off the starting points for carving spirals. I also use indexing to lock the spindle when I am sanding natural edge bowls.
