OK, now which one?...critique

Danny Wells

>These are turkey calls, known as trumpet yelpers. They are both 9" overall height. Wood is mesquite with Texas ebony inserts, brass ferrule and elephant ivory mouthpieces (pre-ban ivory). There are some minor differences with the location of the inserts, but the main difference is that the brass ferrule on the one on the right is 1/8" shorter and thus the wood is 1/8" longer.

Which one seems to have better proportions or is more appealing to the eye?

Thanks for your comments.

Just a thought, are you an optometrist, by any chance?

>Danny - they both look good, but the real criteria is which one sounds better to a turkey/hunter!

>OK Danny. As before the one with the longer furel is more apealing to me. Kind of like a woman with a long neck versus a woman with a short neck.

Just my opinion.

>I appreciate your input. By the way they both sound great to the hunters. Some guys are hunting with them this season. We'll see what the turkeys think, however, part of that will depend on the one running the call.

>The responses just reminded me of questions my opteometrist asks: "Which one is clearer, A or B. Which is sharper, # 1 or # 2. Is it clearer to you now........or, now?" Just joking. Both are really nicely detailed and well made. Choosing the best one is about as hard as those danged eye charts.

>I like the one on the right, but I'm not a turkey. Well, I've been called a turkey, but that doesn't count.

My preference is not based on the length of the brass collar. that works fine in either model. I like the flair of the horn on the right one. It seems to flow better. The one on the left seems a bit stiff.

Secondarily, I like the positioning of the spots better on the right one. The spots on the left one are too conservative, as if someone were afraid they might break something if they got too close to the end with them.
