Hello: I recently got a bottle of Mahoneys walnut oil from wood craft to use on some salad bowls. I have a nice ash bowl, 13 inches in diameter. I put on two coats, two days apart, waited two weeks and put on another coat. Now I would like to use some wax to get a little more sheen to it. I know the wax wont last but will look good to start with. Now my question is, how long does it really take walnut oil to cure completely and do I have to wait a like amount of time to use the wax? Thanks in advance. Jared

through 2000 grit with the danish oil

>Expect longer for walnut. I think it is more like double what you would wait for Tung, so figure on about 2 months. Walnut is a VERY slow curing oil, although the formula you are using might speed the process somehow. (Based on what I remember.)

>Natural tung oil takes between 1-4 days to dry. Mahoney's walnut oil which is heat treated, would be about the same as the tung oil. I used MO and was very satisfied with the results. I tested it side by side with regular walnut oil and it dried much much faster. I waited 24hrs between coats. After the third coat I used the Beal buff system. You could wax with either Mahoney's or any other bee/carnauba wax paste.
