First real gloat

William

>I guess I can call my first real gloat plus a minor gloat. Tomorrow, my new Oneway 2436 is being delivered! After a 10 week wait, its finally going to be here!!!!! :)

I specd it at 3hp, 44 spindle height, the 17 extension, remote stop/start and an extra banjo.

The minor gloat is that its going into my new 24x14 shop that I just built in my walk out basement. The funny part is that I just put the last piece of trim and cleaned up the floor on Sunday and Monday, I got my call from Oneway. Talk about excellent timing.

Needless to say, chomping at the bit

>Hi William,

Great double gloat! That's a great lathe and sounds like a very nice shop setup.

How about a pic of the new lathe in its new home when it arrives?

Congrats!

Mike

Still saving my pennies and dreaming in General Green in Apex, NC :)

I still have some tweaking out to do with the shop. I have some duct work to run for the cyclone DC. It's going to be nice to have a real DC other than my lungs.

I may not be able to sand yet, but I can make some shavings and firewood :)

>Congratulations William on the new lathe.

My biggest surprise was how little I interacted with the lathe after having spent all that money. My previous lathe I was always adjusting this or that. A lot of coxing the lathe to join me in creating the things I was turning. With the Oneway there is little or no coaxing. For the first couple of weeks I missed that. I kept telling myself that it was better that the machine got out of the way. Now it is like I have always turned wood on the Oneway.

Mine is #1362. What is your lathe number?

Not sure what the SN is yet. I do know what you mean about "coaxing". I did some of that myself. They say when the lathe becomes invisible, you can concentrate more on what you are turning. I know having the 2436 won't make me a better turner, but it will certainly help that goal :)

>NICE! Mine will be 10 weeks to the day tomorrow. Did you get yours recently?

What were some of your challenges in moving it where you needed to go? I have several options open to me, the hard part is figuring which one will be the most effecient without wrenching mine or anyone elses back!

>The serial number is on the spec sheet that came with the lathe. The serial number is also engraved on the plaque on the body of the lathe under the headstock (front side).

>I forgot to mention, when I ordered it, they said it would be about six to eight weeks to delivery. I received mine on Feb. 17, 2004. The trailer in the photo has a tilt bed, so unloading it was the easy part. I used a automotive floor jack to lift it on two four-wheeled dollies. And we rolled to it final resting place about 20 feet away. The worst part was that I had to wait a week for the electricity to be installed.
