Turning Pleasure

>The last couple of days, I have been roughing out some Maple Burl hollow forms. What a treat to turn. After turning our local desert woods for years out here in Arizona, turning Maple is like a dream. You guys and gals that turn this as your local wood should consider yourselves lucky.I really do love the woods we get here but not having to sharpen every two minutes and not taking the beating from our woods as we turn is a treat. Be safe, Sean

And They're Good Eating, Too !

>Sean,

Up here in New England, we not only have a number of different Maples, but "Sugaring Season" is in full swing -- Sugar Maples are tapped for sap, which is boiled down to make syrup and sugar (32 - 40 gallons of sap make one gallon of syrup). Clouds of Maple-laced steam rise from little sugarhouses each evening. Driving down dirt roads in rural areas at night (rather tricky, due to all the mud these days) is a real olfactory treat ! It smells like Maple in all the hollows -- can't avoid thinking of pancakes, maple candy, donuts, sugar-on-snow... sure makes a fellow hungry !

Safe Spinning,
