Bay compote

Don Henthorn

>I had three bay cut offs that were unrelated (G) so I glued them together and tried a compote. The bowl part isn't too bad, but I quit too early on the bottom part. My wife liked it that way it is, but I thought it need to be lightened quite a bit. Too chunky. However it is sitting on a shelf and seems content.

>Hi Don,

You have a good start, but I think the base is to clunky. Your next one will be much better. Here is a photo of some compotes I made a few years back for Christmas presents for my family. From left the woods are Mesquite, African Sumac and Carob. They are about 8"D x 4"H. When I see these in person (they are owned by my mom, brother and sister) I still think the bases are a little clunky. I ended up making seven or eight that year, but only got to photograph these three. I got the plan from Wood Magazine, but I don't remember which issue.

>Hi Don and Paul,

Those are great. I agree with Don that the base of his seems a little heavy to me. I like that sumac one, Paul.

Thanks for the pics,

Mike
