Looking for a chunk of Apple wood

Mike Rubes, Apex, NC

>Hi all,

Anyone know where I can get a chunk of apple wood? I'm looking for a bowl blank in the 8x3 range or so. A little bigger/smaller is OK. Green/dried doesn't matter. I took a peek at ebay but didn't see anything. Heartwood or heartwood with sap, doesn't matter, it's all good to me.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

An apple a day, or something like that in Apex, NC...

>Well, seeing as how Mark got me in a giving kind of mood, email me your address and I'll send you a chunk about that size. Now don't everybody go and get all excited....

>Mike, I see you found my auction on eBay.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules of etiquette by posting here. Someone please tell me if I am. I am not a woodturner.

A friend of mine mentioned about 2 weeks ago that he used apple. At the same time, I notice a local orchard was being cut down. I salvaged a few pieces. I still have 8 or so logs. If anyone is interested in a specific dimension, I will try to make it and list it on eBay.

I am actually a teacher but my dad has a tiny sawmill and can often cut specific odd pieces. My mom runs a store on eBay. Not much lumber now, but more to come. www.ebaystores.com/smithlumber

Thanks all.

>Hi all,

You guys are the best! Thanks so much for the wood! Now, it's up to me to see if I can get a bowl out of this without it cracking!!

I'll post up a pic when I get it done.

Yet again, the generousity and fellowship of those on this board shines through.

Thanks,

Mike

>Dan,

I checked out your ebay site and have a couple of suggestions.

1. Create a new store just for lumber. 20 pages of brochures compared to 3 lumber items is not very appealing.

2. You stated that the apple board is green and not treated with anything. This may concern some of your buyers as apple is prone to cracking and may crack during shipment or before the buyer gets a chance to seal it.

Good luck with ebay. Thanks for posting your ebay site.
