>Hey all,

finally worked up the nerve to post my first pic. I've been turning for about 1.5 yrs, been lurking as long with an occasional question.

The pic is a cherry burl bowl from an ebay blank. If this works, I'll post several other items for critique.

Thanks for looking.

>Hi Bud,

Neat form! How big is it? I like that shape and the rim treatment works very well.

Nice pics, thanks for the post.

Just curious, have you bought other wood off ebay? I've seen what looks like great stuff there but have been reluctant to go for any.

>Sorry, guess I shoulda put up a little more info.

The bowl is 6" tall by about 10" wide. Finished with Watco and Beall buffed.

Mike, I've made about 5 wood purchases off ebay so far. I have to say that every piece has been exceptional. Of course, that was only 2 sellers. Hope that helps, Bud

>Bud, I like this little guy! Very cute. Took a look at your other vases and postings too. From what I see, your technical skill is very good (re: no tool marks, excellent finish, good forms). The only one I'd suggest a change is the first hollow you posted (I think it's the first). I'd suggest a stronger taper to the base. Very nice collection of work.

Ebay wood

>Mike, I've purchased quite a bit of wood from ebay. My rule of thumb is to find dealers that have good feedback and history in selling, and then set what I believe is a reasonable price (including shipping!), and not exceed it even if I lose. I've gotten some very good bargains, and also had good luck with quality. Just take the old adadge(sp) to heart: Buyer beware!
