Kaleidoscope kit?

ChuckS

>I need to make a kaleidoscope for the president of a local company. I'm thinking either cocobolo or bocote for the wood. Any suggestions on where to buy a kit? Craft Supplies has an "executive kaleidoscope" kit, does anybody have any experience with it? Any suggestions?

Cost really is not a factor on this one. :-)

Thanks & Happy Easter!

>Hi Chuck,

I made a few of the Lee Valley kits last fall, they worked out great!

Since it's a spindle turning project you can really get creative with some nice 2x2 stock, cocbolo would be nice, it has great density for this scale!

Take care,

Jim

>Hey Chuck, I've used the Exec. kit from Craft Supplies and I think it's a pretty good one. I used Purpleheart with Red Oak. I borrowed the idea from the Wood Magazine article about the guy that made fishing rod handles. You will need an extra long Forstner style bit to bore the center, or a small drill chuck that will allow you to drill to the depth needed from each end.

>Hello Chuck,

The kits from Craft are very good. Since you will be making a special project, you might consider adding real gemstones, or (lab created) to make the project extra special. You can add CZ's in various colours, as well as other man-made gemstones very inexpensively to your project, increasing the visual beauty of the images.

Nearly all of these kits I turn include real gemstones, in lieu of those supplied in the kit. It's a nice extra touch that you might want to consider... Check out any of the online jewellers for small gemstones, or shoot me an email and I will give you some links to try. Good luck to you and best wishes in all of your woodtuning endeavours!
