>Have been asked to turn a chalice and platen as a memorial gift for a niece who was recently killed in an accident. The gift will be used by her church to serve communion. I need some resources for size and shape of such articles. Any suggestions as to type of wood to use and where to find solid pieces to turn. Any suggestion as to interior finish of the chalice so liquid will not be absorbed by the wood.

Thanks for all assistance.

>All I can suggest right now is for you to search some back issues of turning magazines form the last year. Someone turned an offering bowl....it's either the UK Woodturning, or AAW at best guess.

>This is one I turned from Cherry harvested from Notre Dame. It is used to celebrate Mass at a chapel on campus. It is 11 inches tall. The color is Gilding.

Hope this is of some help.

>Maple or any relatively non-porus wood would probably work. Don't use oak, the open pores will wick the wine out of the chalice.
