Turning keepers

>I've been traveling for demos recently and finally got to turn a piece for me to finish and keep! Still in a square mode, and I don't often finish shiny, but the grain in this Santos Rosewood cried out for gloss-spray can Deft and hand rubbed.

>OOOOHH!!! Nice, Jamie. How do you keep the reflections/glare spots to a minimum on a glossy surface like this piece?

>Jamie, I seem to be in the same kind of situation. I did a club demo this month, and have 2 more coming up. I have 3 commission pieces to get done, and I have to come up with pieces for 2 shows. At my age, I don't need to feel pressure in my turning. I guess that I've done it to myself.

>Beautiful Jamie. I think glossy was good. They are putting insulation in my shop today so maybe in another week I can have everything close to workable and start turning again.

I did the same thing to myself. I have 4 demos 2 art shows a meeting at my house and various banquets to photograph at night and on weekends. It's going to be a long 2 months. Fun but long.

>I started a couple of years ago keeping one turning each year just for me. It may not be the best piece I do all year but there will be something about it that just grabs me.

I can see why you would want to save this piece. Very nice.

>Finish is 2 coats of spray can Deft gloss, buffed with 3M Finesse-it on a white Scotchbrite pad mounted on a power drill. I don't do much gloss finish work, so I like to keep it low tech- that's the Phrugal Way!
