Ron, David's class was a lot of fun. It was very interesting listening to his stories and ways of doing things, see and hold some inspiring work, and a great opportunity to ask specific questions. I learned things about finishes, guilding, glue, design, and some miscellaneous things. I didn't really learn much about bowl turning except confirmation that the techniques I use were not too bad! There were some in the class who had never used a lathe so an advanced class would probably get into much more. I would certainly do it again.

Chris, Thanks. This was done from a dry blank. Everyone in the class was given a blank already glued to a waste block and mounted on a faceplate. I find dry cherry rather pleasant to turn, but nothing like slopping wet wood!

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but I asked what kind of glue he used for things difficult to glue such as cocobolo and ebony. (He showed a stunning sycamore bowl with an ebony ring made of glued segments) He took me out into the Woodcraft store and picked up a can of Nelson Urac Resin Adhesive 185 (comes with a powdered hardner) and said "Use this - works great!" The can indicates a 30 minute working time and a 2-10 hour curing time, depending on temperature.
I was glad to learn this since I do not trust CA glue for such things.
