BOILING WOOD

>We have had very good luck boiling our blanks for 6 to 8 hours and have had virtually no cracking. Problem being we destroyed our barbeque pit and decided to build a good size pot and boil in the jungle before we bring the rough blanks to town.

With this we will be able to boil a hundred plus blanks a day. After boiling the blanks get a 24 hour soak in sugar cane liquer and anti fungas chemical prior to final drying and packaging.

>WOW! So Jim, you're both boiling solid blanks and soaking them in alcohol, then an antifungal? This is before they go in a shipping container headed for the states? Any other sealer or anything on them? Pretty interesting.

>Mike: I dont like to use wax as it takes away from the appearance so we shrink wrap each peice to protect them.

>Thanks Jim, but your response is even more interesting. Personally, if I were looking at buying blanks in a store, I'd have a preference for blanks that WERE sealed in wax. They seem, to me, to generally display more of the figure in the wood than a dry blank, and since I prefer working with wet wood - I'd automatically think that blank had more moisture in it.

Just something to keep in mind for you.

>Mike: With the strange things we produce it is normally not a problem to see the figure or color very clearly and the shrink wrap protects as good as wax and looks professional.

>Okie doke. I wish I could turn some of your woods, but I gave up turning anything that I was not already familiar with. Too many allergy problems for me with foreign woods.
