>I,ve been using John's tools including the laser rig with his hollowing system sense he has been making them. I have never had a problem and I use it quite a bit on some of the tough woods we have out here in Arizona. Actually, all the woods we turn here are pretty rough on our tools. He has an online store at his web site. I always recomend his tools.

Terrible internet site (on my computer)

John Trant (Baltimore/DC area)

>Wow, what happened to John's site. I have visited that site quite a few times in the past with no problems. However, with his new format, I cannot read the black print on the dark olive background and the pictures are very, very tiny. Not a good business move.

Again, this may be a function of my computer but I have not previously had problems viewing professionally constructed internet sites.

The olive color might be a misadjustment on your computer/monitor - the background is a 70,70,70 neutral grey on a screen capture here. But the text is hard to read anyway. It might be even harder to read for you if your monitor is not adjusted properly. (If you are seeing grey as olive, you are likely getting a greenish cast on every photo without realizing it!)

The photos are not unreasonably sized on my monitors (dual monitors, set to 2560x1024, using IE6), but they appear to be poorly presented on the web site. For example, one picture I looked at was 2148x831 pixels, but the size was forced by the HTML code to be just over 400 pixels across!! This means the viewer has to wait for a long download for a large picture, but can only see a small picture. This would ALMOST be OK if the page used the image as a thumbnail to click on to display the larger image, but even that is not a good way to do a web page. (Best to use a reduced size thumbnail linked to the larger image) To create a page slow to load but with small pictures seems the worst of all methods.

If you have an interest in this web site, you might send a note to the guy - he may not realize the problems.

BTW, you can see the full size pictures if you copy them to your computer and view them with some image applicateion.

World of difference!

>The site looks "clean" now that all that grey grime has been wiped away! ;-)

The site is much, much better but the thumbs are still very small (100x30 for most) but they link fine to the full size photo.
