Apple tree stump

Mike G.

>I hope it's alright for a "Neander" to come here and ask a question. ;^) A friend asked me to find out the "value" of his Apple tree stump. I've included a picture. The stump is about 4 or 5 feet high and about 18 to 24 inches in diameter. I believe he's interested in selling it and wants to get a value. It's located in the mountains of NC.

Thanks, Mike G.

>Hi Mike,

I've no idea of the value, but I am interested in this. Where in NC are you? I am just outside of Raleigh.

Feel free to drop me an email or respond here.

Thanks,

Mike

1 or 2 bowls...

In my experience, fruitwood is generally unstable but can be some of the prettiest wood. Haven't done apple, but peach and pear darken rather quickly.

>Except to another woodturner the "value" of this stump is whatever it's gonna cost to get it removed. Also, I understand that apple wood tends to warp a lot as it dries. Although this stump may reveal some very beautiful wood inside, don't expect it to send your kids to college.

>If I were your friend I would give it to a turner in exchange for a bowl. Unless you are in an area where Apple is scarce it isn't worth buying.
