Alternative wood to use?

William

>Greetings!

I am looking to assemble a good miter sled so I can finally try my hand at segmented turning. It seems that baltic birch plywood is the standard to use for the sled or other jigs.

Unfortunately, aside from ordering a sheet online, I cannot find it locally.

What are some suitable alternatives out there that I can find at a local Home Depot, Lowes, 84 Lumber?

Thanks for any input!

William

>Nothing wrong with using the plain Birch plywood that is available at Home Depot. They have a "Paint Grade" that is available for less money, and it is good for making jigs and things.

>I bought the baltic plywood as mentioned from HD last weekend to build a miter sled . Works great in making very accurate wedges of wood for segmented bowls ! Keeping the pivoting arms long (29 inches +) seems to increase the accuracy . Made first segmented bowl today Bill L.
