information needed on hazelnut

>I have a customer ask me if I could make a small bowl or challace out of Hazelnut wood. I did a search and found no posts about thiswood. Is there anyone who has experance with this wood and can tell me what to expect?

I have turned filbert wood which is in the same family. The wood is very light in color and looks like birch. I turned a couple of spalted filbert weed pots that have a lot more color. It turns similar to alder. You shouldn't have any problem turning the wood. Wild filberts grow in a clump and usually are about 2 inches in diameter. Orchard trees have a single trunk which are larger than wild trees.

I got two log halves a while back and just turned one of them recently. I thought it turned quite well. The blank I used had developed several checks and I was turning it just to see if I could keep it together. With a little CA from time to time, the bowl came out quite nice. I'm in the finishing stages with it now. The wood turns quite nicely though and you should enjoy the process. It does check in log form though and will move in all stages.
