Glue for Heartpine?

>A friend of mine asked me if I had a recommendation for glueing up Heartpine. He wants to make a segmented ring for a rim on a large platter. The heartpine is over 100 years old, but still has lots of pine resin in it.
Would Gorilla glue work, or should he go with an epoxy?
