This is not spam!� Barry has been looking at slab flattening solutions and I ran across this add. I probably should have posted under messages, but since this was my first time posting under the new format I got it in the wrong place.� My apologies.

Not really...

Mike is an accomplished woodworker out of Zuni Va. There was recent discussion on surfacing wide slabs. I believe he is just passing on what he feels is useful information.

At about 8 hours round trip, even with gasoline prices starting to fall, I hope their prices and skill set would justify Barry hauling several slabs for them to flatten for him.

You are right...in that length of time I can flatten the slab myself.  The last one I did I took it to the guy who sawed it for me with a Lucas Mill and he flattened it on his Wood Whiz CNC for $200.  That was right on the edge of doing it myself.  It was the cleanup that kicked me over the edge.  The flattening process is not only slow and tedious but makes an unbelievable mess.  My slabs are stored and drying in an old industrial building that is wide open and the CNC machine is practically on the way home.

And, I've finally learned that wood that is offered as "FREE" isn't! At least, I think I've learned that lesson.

The question is, how much will that free wood cost you?

OTOH, a friend was driving down his street one day and saw a “free wood” sign.  He stopped and picked up three 1x10”x10’ walnut boards, clear, straight and no cupping.  He dropped them off at my house, gratis!
