Your tool storage is embarrassingly overly organised compared to mine. In my case, apart from having, for example, a drawer in which are kept chisels, that's about as organised as it gets. They're in there, somewhere, but I have to dig around a bit to find the one I'm looking for. Slainte.

Actually Derek, I'm not really much embarrassed, even though my tool storage is significantly less organised being mostly a bit jumbled, but I do know where everything is when I need it. And the story about early learning of sharpening from a grumpy old git is just a story based on truth, but perhaps embellished a little.

In truth, one of the main motivations for posting was to see if I could after all the troubles the forum has been experiencing over the last few weeks, no doubt to Ellis's hair pulling out annoyance. It seems to have worked, so here's hoping for that to continue. Slainte.

Ha ha. My tools also end up in the tool well when in use. In my case, unlike you it seems with the pristine appearance of your tool well, they generally become half hidden because of all the shavings, chips and wood dust that ends up in there with them. Slainte.

I scooped most of the shavings out for the photo. I usually keep some around to wipe the honing oil off my hands. Cleans better than paper towels.

Ah, so the carefully curated array of tools in a pristine tool well was a bit of a show, ha, ha. I think we've all snagged a finger on something sharp buried under shavings that was temporarily stored in the well.

Sorry the Ctrl plus mouse scroll tip only partially worked. Slainte.

It's weird -- the typeface is fine, but the box I'm typing in at the moment is too small -- all the buttons for text formatting are really small.  Seems to be some sort of proportioning problem.

You can drag the bottom edge of the box down. Hover the mouse over the box's bottom border until you get a line with an arrow at each end, left click, and drag. Slainte.

My bench sits not quite perfectly level which isn't a huge deal.  The happy accident is that narrow chisels, if they roll, will roll toward or into the tool well if they're put down in a bit of haste.  I love it when things work out that way.  Feel like I'm halfway living right.

Maybe a more appropriate name for that chaos would be "tool swale" or even "tool ditch'?

Those are as good a name as any. 

Wouldn't be without one though.  Positives far outweigh the negatives.  Had my 1/8" Marples roll right into the ditch just today.  That bugger has a mind of its own.

I'd be scared to death to use those tools though.

I do need a side rabbet plane and saw that Lee Valley is backordered on them.  I was hoping that you'd mail me yours for free.  :-)
