When the site went down, it reminded me of how much I enjoy hanging out here. And, then, I thought about how much I have learned over the years. I especially liked the course in metallurgy, sorry to see it gone.

I cannot imagine the "Behind the scenes" but I bet it ain't cheap...

It takes effort to create a detailed post. If the result is silence from those that benefited from a post and criticism from those that didn't another contributor is lost from the conversation.

As important as funding for this Forum is content. There is too little done to promote, encourage content.

Thanks Ellis.

I know this looks grand, but I have spent 30 years as a serious woodworker resisting building shop furniture with anything that came close to furniture-grade wood. Even my current bench, which was built 10 years ago, has a base built of roofing timbers (albeit Jarrah). The top, however, is European Oak. 

The case for these drawers was built if cheap Merbau panels from the local borg, and stained to look like Jarrah. The drawer fronts are real Jarrah, but taken from salvage. All the remainder of the wood is from offcuts. The motivation to build something special came from the awareness that I shall be retiring in the not too distant future (although I have just pushed this out a couple of years), and intend to downsize our home ... and shop ... needing to consolidate the special tools with special memories and care for them.

It was recommended to copy original into a new post, edit, delete the old post.  I suppose we have to have some feature in the old software better than the new.......

look at the big picture

If you prepare a post with pictures you are going to find it is so much easier than before, or anywhere else,  that the minor inconvenience of editing will be overlooked.  During the recent difficulties I had a look at other WW Forums.  By a wide measure the new look here is the most intuitive to deal with.  And, the arcane annoyances of the old WC are gone.    I'll happily live with edit inconvenience.  As I understand the issue edit can not be improved.

I'm going to show a little restraint here (unusual for me) and simply say that what I am looking at on my screen if far, far from an improvement.  

Edit (Preview function)

I always found the preview function disconcerting. However, ability to edit is always better than mistakes.

You won't see the vast improvement until you post a picture rich submission of something you made and compare the ease to what we had before.

The text on the page is just huge.  Can this be fixed? 

As for pictures, it's just as easy to post a link to a Flickr page or something like that.  People who want to look can, otherwise it doesn't take up a lot of forum bandwith, and you can do more on a photo hosting site than you could ever do on a forum.  So that part is a non-starter.  What needs solving is the threading, and at the moment for me, the gigantic typeface which only happens on this forum.  I don't want to adjust the browser zoom level itself.

Charlie, try holding down the keyboard Shift key and spinning the mouse scroll wheel. See if that helps. No idea why the text on your monitor looks huge though. It looks normal sized on my monitors, on different computers which is, of course, no help to you. No idea how the pages here configure on a mobile phone though because I seldom use my mobile to go on the internet. Slainte.

Sorry, I meant to say hold down the Ctrl key, not Shift key and spin the mouse scroll wheel. My brain burp. I would have edited my previous post to make the correction, but couldn't see one after I'd posted. Slainte.

Works, but it skews everything and makes it all look out of proportion.  Really strange.  Thanks for the suggestion though.  It's a partial fix.

Thanks for the Crtl and mouse tip,  the large type was a little irritating.  Things look much better now.
