Judy Ditmer is a great turner. She was the demonstrator at Montgomery County Woodturners a few years ago. When it my time for show and tell, I held up a fabulous bowl, and everyone oohed and odd. You’re supposed to show off your own work, but this fabulous bowl was one of hers! She recognized it too! Lot’s of fun!

Pretty much any magazine not rich with tool tuning and tool buying guides is doomed to fail.

Funny, I just talked about that magazine yesterday on another forum. I had to get rid of mine during a move, but i bought the CD, so I still have them all and browse them once in a while for inspiration. My favorite magazine of all time.

That disc compilation looks tempting. I’ve got tons of Woodwork, FWW, PopWood, etc. Moving in a few weeks, might keep Woodwork and Home Furniture. Everything else up for grabs, come get it in south central Indiana 😁

Early FWW for me. But I got that CD, and it is great. I have quite a few issues, but it got to the point where all my issues of different magazines over 40 years, were overwhelming my space. It hurt a bit, but I just consider how much more it would have hurt to do it later.

One of my inspirations for the purchase of the CD was an article about a lathe a rock musician had custom made. It was an issue I skipped ( or some other mag). I looked through every issue, and never found it. I even thought it was a cover story. No mater, it was a good excuse to have a gander. If anyone knows what I am referring to, let me know.

Possibly. People do often allow themselves small luxuries like magazine subscriptions and cutback in places where it would really count.

I think an 'artsy' woodworking magazine would be a big business risk in any economic environment since virtually none have ever survived past a few years. Taunton's Home Furniture comes immediately to mind. Lots of good content, but no U-Build-It type articles.

I remembered the drummer from Foreigner was a turner, but didn’t remember where I learned it. It wasn’t from Woodcraft magazine and I don’t recall it from Woodwork. He may have been featured in more than one article.
