Stick deodorants have something in them that give me the worst rash you've ever seen. I mean Beast of the Persimmons kind of rash. Prednisone-needing kind of rash. I get physically ill. There's probably one out there that doesn't, but I don't intend to experiment and find out which one.

In your zeal to find something to be disagreeable about you seem to have interpreted my 2nd paragraph for your purposes and not according to what was clearly written.
I have no idea what the competitive situation is for academic jobs. I did not comment on it.

Yup, but God forbid someone tries to sell a product like Pratt and Lambert 38, which has few or no close replacements because of VOC's. I bet sales volume on deodorant, hair spray, and furniture wax are much higher than oil varnish and easily replaced.
I'd much rather use stick deodorant than water based varnish, not that that has anything to do with Arkansas stones...
