New life for old chisels

Some 20 years ago I made with a great effort some chisels (and plane blades) of A2 steel. The intention was to have them for paring so they were sharpened to 25 deg.

As a lot of people have commented, A2 has poor edge retention at low angles so they they have sadly not been used so often.

Yesterday I tried to unicorn-sharpen them. Got a shiny nano bevel so hopefully they should be ok. Made some tests and they are sharp but it is too early to brag about the edge retention.

...it covers up the lack of uniformity at the "fine edge" depth that A2 can have.

They'll be excellent choppers now - you'll like the conversion.

EDIT: I may be jumping the gun assuming they'll chop - they'll work well as parers now, too.

...my stanley 18 plane with its cheese iron go from something that never moved to being something that I do actually use from time to time. The cheese irons always raised a wire edge and wore not-so-long.

Now, no wire edge and they seem to wear really well/long.
