He says that he does not ship to Canada at the moment. Not sure why that is a bad idea, but it is where we are.

I'd imagine that there's no shipping to canada due to experience with it. For whatever reason, it costs 3 times as much to ship something to windsor vs. detroit. Then, the reward that I've had ordering things from canada is software systems creating odd obligations that the seller never selected, and no ability to get them changed because they're cross platform and none of the rank and file employees have the authority to do anything different than the computer says now.

When things were paper, it seemed like the delivery guys always had a lot more ability to make changes on the fly and kind of blow off requirements that may have been made in error. One of the consequences of "big data" and tracking every single thing any person ever does.

He said it was Covid related. As you say there are hiden costs for Canada, unless you are Amazon, and really dive into it. 15 years ago it was getting nearly impossible to get shipping as a lot of outfits were slamming the door. And then the financial meltdown of 2009 happened and all of a sudden even a Canadian dollar was worth the effort. Why write off a place kinda the size of California. That is possibly what is going to happen again as we are all truly bankrupt.

Ron's website seemed to be saying there was some kind of Covid issue about shipping, which as far as I know does not exist. But everyone's quote is different.

looks like Canada post has waived the signature requirement on a lot of packages where signature is requested by the shipper. That might have something to do with it.

Everything else outside the US here is a grab bag. I got a surface package from japan yesterday, but as far as I know, Japan hasn't air shipped to the US (you have to use DHL or another private service, and DHL is extremely iffy as far as damage goes) for closing in on half a year. It looks like Ron is just keeping orders in the US for now as long as he can fill his to-do list.
