I can’t be the first person to do this, but I haven’t seen it anywhere. There’s a pile of steel rules in a drawer and at least three Starrett squares I have no use for, this morning drinking coffee I was wondering if it would make a good scraper for mortise floors, rabbets, dadoes, etc. It does, I think.

Yeah, if the board is upright on bench being edge-jointed. When done with the plane. Put the stock of the square against the flat side and just pull the edge of the square along the board, for the last word. Only do this for one pull, and not heavy pressure.
I don’t always do this. But I do run a square along the edge being jointed, looking for light leaks under the blade. Just as part of the process. If you run the whole length and see just one place where there’s a tiny light leak, it’s tempting to just fix it with the square that’s already in your hand, and Starrett blades are hardened.
This one is about as hard as a saw plate, sharpens up fast and makes a burr as good as I can make one. I’m a big admirer of Paul Hamler if you’ve seen his stuff, so I have been doing the 45* burr on scrapers and keeping them 90* to the work, with as good of results as I have a right to hope for.
I made a side cutter, needs a mate.
Was a quick and dirty job, just to see if it would work. Ground to about 35*, shot for 40 on the hone and 45* with the burnisher. It did make shavings.
