>Hello, I'm new to woodworking. A friend from another forum suggested that drop by, see what's up, and post a picture of my latest project. I must say that I built this under a LOT of supervised instruction.
I've looked around this forum for a few minutes and am going to add it to my daily reading list.
The main body is white maple surrounded by jotoba. The handle is jotoba sandwiched between black walnut, the knob is cherry, the blade is a Hock. Finished with Danish Oil.

Just how "new" are you?
My first real project was a year ago, I built an arbor for our back yard. It�s 24� x 16� x 9� high (8 foot posts, topped by a 4 x 8 beams, and 2 x 6 rafters on top with 2 x 2s for the plants to grow on)
After that we decided to build a couple of buffet tables to put on the adjacent wall. This looked like it was going to turn into more projects, so I bought a table saw, which I had never used before. I contacted a woodworking school for a basic lesson in how to use a table saw without cutting my hands off. After that I made these buffet tables. I also built those hanging strawberry planters. We need them to keep some of them strawberries from Caramel, our Golden Retriever.
Caramel wants to know if the strawberries are growing yet. My wife wanted to have a backer to keep things from being pushed off the back of the table. I added the planter to make it more useful.
From building the buffet tables I knew that I wanted to increase my skills, so I went back to the instructor who showed me how to use a table saw and I took a class in which we made this cherry bookcase / night stand.
The next thing that I worked on was the plane. Up next is a kitchen table.

Yes, he steered me very well I think. I�m taking some more classes from him and am looking forward to it. He�s an excellent instructor and I�m looking forward to learning more.

The dots are set screws to horizontally position the blade. There are two more on the other side.
What did you use for an iron?
A Hock 3 �� blade with a chip breaker.
Are you in Oz?
Sorry, I don�t understand. I live in the Puyallup WA, which is about 40 miles south of Seattle.

No, but now that you mention it, I could use a shoulder plane�

How did you attach, or inlet, the rear tote?
Mortise and tenon � � wide and 1� deep (about) glued in-place with Tite Bond II.
