worm holes in plow fence
Jack Guzman from Maine
>I was given a Matheson wedged arm plow plane awhile back. The plane is in excellent shape. Nothing is broken and all the parts are intact and functional. There was only one iron but I got a set that will work. The only defect to the plane is the fence.Worms or some sort of burrowing insect has chewed some tunnels into the face of the fence.I used a pick on it to probe the deepest holes. It appears the damage doesn't go any deeper than about 3/16". I have thought about cutting off a full 3/16" wide piece from the face and adding a piece of new wood but that would be a last resort because it will look repaired. I would like to fill the holes with epoxy of some sort in such a way as to make it blend in with the rest of the wood.I don't mind if the filler is obvious because it will only show on the face(wear side).
Does anyone have any tips on the best way to do this? Or any other ideas?---thanks--- Jack
