Hollows and Rounds with Todd Herrli

>I recently purchased this DVD. I got tired of trying to find hollows and rounds in the used tool market.(I have a few mismatches,some with pitted irons,missing irons,etc.)I need the planes so I guess I'll make my own.

I watched the movie and this looks fairly simple.Appears that everything I need is in there.The only thing is, the disc contains a PDF file "measured drawings for planes and jigs" and my computer won't open it.I dug into this by reading read-me files and going to the help section and discovered that I need to buy additional software to access this free,additional feature of the disc....So I gave up on trying to read this.

The question is, to someone who has accessed this file;do I need it?Also,is there another way to get it without spending more money? I already paid for the disc.Thanks---Jack

I am a carpenter by trade.Also a handyman/Jack -of-all-trades.I work around my neighborhood mostly helping people keep up their old houses.I have a fairly large woodworking shop in my house where I work with both hand and power tools. At the moment I'm focusing on Windsor chairs building.I will build most anything if needed. I'm always learning,adapting,changing trying to broaden my woodworking skills.I work mostly with hand tools in my shop but will use power if it is a better way to get the desired result. My wife,Donna,and I live in the woods of Maine with our dogs,cats,and birds. We have 5 grown kids and six grandchildren. Woodcentral has been central to my growth as a woodworker. I pass through this place every day.

>If it's just a PDF you should be able to use Adobe Reader to open it. Do a google for Adobe Reader and it will take you where you can download it for free.

I'm not computer savvy enough to maneuver past this point. I tried to open the individual files without activating the Interactual player and I get more error messages. This shouldn't be this difficult. I tried the disc in another computer that is set up differently and I get the same problem. I get a headache just trying to explain this. I have no doubt I can build my planes with what I already know but the tease is there. There is further info in this disc and I want to find out what it is.Thanks for the tip though.---Jack

Assuming you're on windows, start Acrobat (by opening any old document), open your CD, and DRAG the document onto Acrobat. That should force the document to be opened by Acrobat, and not "the other thing".

There are many other geeky things that could be done, but that's the simplest that occurs to me.

I opened the disc to show the contents and fished around til I found a pdf file.They don't make it easy to find.I used trial and error. Once I located the file I was able to easily open it with Adobe Reader (latest version).I copied it for future reference.

I was able to watch the DVD on my TV. Problem solved. Thanks all.---Jack

While the video covers all the steps, I couldn't remember them in order and the step by step web page really helped. I looked for it today and could not find it - I think it was for an ovolo plane but I can't recall. Good luck. Barry
