Get-Together at "SawBoy's" in Lake Wales

Mike Fitterling

>Well, the weekend has come and gone and another great woodworker get-together is history. None of my Woodcentral brothers and sisters were able to make it, but I thought you'd like to see the pics anyway, as all woodworkers are part of a big family. Plus, maybe I can entice ya'll to come next time.

"Bones" (Alan) from Gainesville, makes periodic trips north and east and brings back nice lumber at very good prices for those of us along the route and who live in "wood is gold" territory--just as good a reason for a party as anything else. On the trailer is just what is left on the last leg of his trip; he only had one stop to make before getting home. This trip brought cherry (16' planks and some 22" or so wide), tiger maple, Honduras mahogany, purpleheart, ash, poplar, walnut, tigerwood, and bloodwood.

Two pots of chili (one spicy one not) were provided by yours truly along with liquid refreshment, and other brought chips, vegetables, and sandwiches.

Did a little work in the shop too, tuning and sharpening a L-N rabbet block plane and sharpening a few chisels. Most of the wood was in the 16 to 17 foot range, so I got a call to bring out a saw to crosscut, so the guys could get their lumber in their vehicles. I brought out a circular saw and the crosscut handsaw I had just sharpened and for which I had just made a new tote--the circular saw never got plugged in. I did most of the cutting, although the pic shows Dave using the saw, and received the name "Saw Boy" for my efforts (as in "Come on, Saw Boy, you have more cuttin' to do!"). The saw cut so easily even through 8/4 x 12" purpleheart. :)

Here's the first picture. Dave (DLTampa) cutting and Salmo supervising.

This first pic, does it snow in Florida?

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>or is it my computer? All I can see is a lot of white.

Other pics show that y'all had a good time and plenty of time for stories and other lying (word used in its most positive connotation).

>I don't remember the last time I saw snow here. It has happened, but what you are probably seeing is the blazing sun making everything appear "white." About 80 degrees that day--like today. heehee
