Waste Not Want Not - Scraper Sharpener

Garrett in Victoria

>What do you do when that solid carbide 1/4" router bit snaps off? Make a scraper sharpener. The handle is a scrap of maple turned to knock off the edges but still square so it won't roll off the bench, and tapered a little toward the bit for convenience. Finish is a coat of poly.

I drilled a 3/4" deep hole in the end with a "C" letter bit that's just slightly less than 1/4", and hammered in the bit's remnant end until it bottomed.

All in about 15 minutes, and it does a great job.

Cheers, Garrett

>Thats a good mantra to live with Garrett, and I see that it has paid off quite handsomely for you. What's even sweeter is that this router bit has gone from being a tailed device accessory to being a handtool. :~)
