The bigger risk seems to be that Luddites (or in my case computer cheapskates) Will simply not find the comunication platform attractive and move off elsewhere. I don't see that effect on my 1998 vintage computer and dial-up, I don't know how typical that is. When people with cable start complaining, I really wonder about their configuration. Of course the people who run these kinds of places probably don't have these system problems. I imagine them in Live Free or Die Hard like layouts with flat screens wallpapered over every available surface.

I think we should squash the hat promotion. Until someone mentioned financial hardship, I thought Ellis was electrocomuting from the four corners of the earth.

I could not agree more. While the new format appeared slow at first, I believe that Ellis is working out (or has worked out) the bugs. The fact that he asked us for our opinions says a lot about how much he cares for our input. I know several forums that would have just changed the format as then said, "Tough Cookies!" (no pun intended)

"Cookies",...get it? Cause' the browser needs cookies to remember your settings and,...eh,...um.....No one gets me!

Seriously, as I get used to it I'm liking the new format more and more. My advice to those who are opposed to it: give it some time and I'm sure you'll get used to it.

I can say that I don't miss Badger Pond anymore. Ellis has put it too shame, and I'm quite certain that this is not an experiment. Yes, we had a great time at BP, but that was due to the folks that we had there, many of whom washed up on the shore of Ellis Island. I m sorry to learn that our assimilation ran off some Centrailians, that's a real drag.:~(

I may be out of line here, which wouldn't be the first time :~O, but I think it best that the name of BP never be mentioned in Ellis' House again. He bent over backwards to "rescue" us and I feel that by mentioning it any further is a direct slap in his face and that's just not right to do, not after all he's done for us and continues to do to keep the Island above the high tide mark. BP is dry, lets fill in the hole and forget it.

Re: BP...it was nice while it lasted. Like an old girlfriend or two, I'm glad to have had the time, but also glad I moved on (and I'm certain they were, too!).

Life is about adapting. As Alan said in his original post, the huge influx of BPer's made this site better, though we thought Ellis was going to explode for a while there. It is, however, Very expensive, as in thousands per month, to run a large and evolving site like this, so any and all contributions are needed, all of the time. But don't worry about mentioning Badger Pond here. Such good memories!

I wonder how the info gleaned from Wayne's "experiment" was ever utilized. Would be interesting to know since I was a part of it all for a few years.

I wish Wayne no ill will what-so-ever, however I do think it highly not-nice to compare The Island to the late BP. Ellis has more then out-done himself in not only making Wood Central, but re-re-re making Wood Central to be better and better and better over the years and not comparing it to BP is the least that we former BP'ers can do to thank him.
