Cedar as a rust preventer?
Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native, Presently Away
>I have been doing some reading tonight in the current book that I am reading, which is titled Birch Bark Canoe--Living Among the Algonquin and read a passage where the author--David Gidman is preparing to go spend the winter in a small cabin belonging to an Indian friend of his. While making these preparations he is speaking to a man whom is close 80, and one of the bits of advice that he gave to David when he was to be away from the cabin for a spell was to "put all your valuables in a hollow cedar log as nothing will rust on you".
The immediate thought was of coarse, why not build a toolchest out of cedar then, or at least line with cedar to help retard rusting. Hmmmmmmmmmm.
